Mint App Smackdown

I chose Mint for my smackdown app. I selected Mint because of the useful features it has as a financial planning app. The app Mint allows you to manage your bills, budget, credit score and even set up financial goals. Under the bills tab you can input future expenses along with the dates they are due and the app will check to see if you have enough money to allocate to this bill and remind you when the bill is close. The budget feature allows you to visualize and see the break down of each transaction and expense you have and offset your expenses with your future income or savings. These are just a few of the features of Mint, almost all features are automated and require little to no manual inputs.

This app will not only be useful to my potential clients but for myself whether I am working in the financial field or not. I will need to be able to manage my own finances and assure that I am not over spending and I am saving enough money for my future.

Overall, Mint is extremely beneficial for anyone who has to manage their own money. I would recommend this app to everybody as it is free and is an extremely user friendly financial planning app. This app allows you to plan for your future, and be more financially sound. You must plan for your future now, and with the use of the app Mint it can be effortless.

  1. I have been hearing a lot of people raving about this app and I think I might now try it! It only takes 10 minutes and is free which got me hooked and the opportunity to work on tracking my money to prepare better for my future is important to me! Finishing my bachelor's degree this semester I know I will have more bills to pay and I need to check where my money is going! Your explanation was super helpful on how to set everything up! I am wondering how this app is different from the debit and credit app I have heard about?

  2. Mint seems to be a top of the line app for finances! I like how you can schedule bills and budget your money. Being a finance guy, I definitely appreciated this smackdown and will be looking further into Mint. I like how you connected the app back to Stockton students and how we can better manage our money while in school.

  3. Hello Greg! This application is similar to the one that Robert did. I like this application because of how user friendly it is and that you can connect your bank account to it. I also like the bar graph visualization for the budget area in the app. It helps to better understand how much money you are spending for different things. The alert for upcoming bills is also helpful too! Thank you for sharing this helpful tool in your smackdown.

  4. After watching your smackdown, I will definitely be looking into the Mint application! It can be helpful to all people in any life stage, whether someone is still in high school learning to balance his/her finances or if someone is an adult with many bills to manage. After graduation, I will start using an application like this to see how my income will be allocated among personal items, bills, and student loans. Being able to visualize spending will help me stay organized and less overwhelmed.

  5. Gregory, I had heard about Mint but had never actually researched its functions, so this smackdown was very helpful for me. Through your demonstration of it's capabilities, I think it could be helpful for me even though I will not be pursuing the finance field, but just so I can better track my expenses.

  6. I like the personalized tips and suggestions functions which are good for new users who are not good at making budget plans. I also checked online that there is no Autopay feature in Mint, but you can mark it down if you sign up for Autopay from other sites outside Mint. Mint will still send you a reminder to keep you aware of what you have paid. I think this is the most impressive function because some people forget about it once they sign up for Autopay, and this is why overbudget happens. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Gregory,
My favorite part of this app is the way you can schedule bills. Once I graduate, life is definitely going to hit me hard in terms of having a busy work schedule and then trying to learn to manage my money on top of that. I think your presentation really sold me on this app and it is something I am definitely going to download when the time comes for me to do things on my own.

  8. Before this smackdown, I had not heard of Mint, however with the summary and visual presentation I understand why this app is so crucial for the younger generation to know about. I agree with how it is important to plan ahead now in order to be financially stable in the future. Seeing so many individuals leave school in debt with no plan or hustle is heartbreaking; I agree that using Mint could make their lives easier. I personally like the reminder feature this app provides because with such a busy schedule, I can occasionally lose track of some things.

  9. Hello, Gregory! I think it is FANTASTIC that you are taking an active role in controlling your spending and finances! I am a bit older, though, so I wouldn't feel comfortable giving so much access to an app, especially my banking info and social security numbers (which I assume how credit information is accessed). Would you also recommend a service, such as LifeLock, to protect personal information from potential hackers?

  10. Hi Gregory, awesome presentation and post. Mint seems like a very convenient and easy to use app. I thought it was very interesting that you said it takes almost no manual calculating, as it generates the numbers for you. This app appears to be helpful for all ages and any career. I will definitely be looking into this app, to help manage my finances.

  11. I liked how customizable this app can be!! It seems like a really good tool to use for financial planning. Another one of our classmates chose a financial planning app called, Debit and Credit. Do you think that either app is better or more helpful for your career or just as an individual?

  12. As a finance major, I'm very happy that you presented this app because I feel that it can help me in my future profession and day to day life. Keeping your finances in order and being responsible with your money is very important, and this app helps you do that.

  13. Hi Gregory,

I never heard about Mint until I was searching for my own Smackdown project. One of the top apps for planning and tracking finances. I love that you can keep track of your credit score. I’m a bit OCD about keeping track of my credit score and know the importance of a healthy range. There is self- satisfaction in achieving it. Being able to keep track of all facets of personal finance is important. Because really, how can you assist someone with finances if you haven't learned to control your own? I think have everything encompassed in one place is great.

  14. Hi Gregory! I agree that Mint offers several useful features for users to track their financial spending. As a young adult, bills can be overwhelming and confusing. This app offers users with one place to organize everything. This way users will not miss paying their bills and have to deal with late fees. I also like the spending tracker feature of the application. Now that debit and credit cards are so popular, it is easy to swipe and forget how much you are actually spending. Good job!

  15. Gregory,
I loved your presentation! I personally have used Mint for years to help with my financial spending and to sort out the odds and ends within my finances. I love it! I think the app can be overwhelming at first, but once the user gets the hang of it, it is easy. Whether you are a student, finance specialist or just a regular adult, this app can be very resourceful for our everyday lives.

  21. Hello Gregory,
I never used/heard of this app, but it seems very helpful. It provides an easy way to track your spendings in one spot and budget money properly. I also heard of Debit and Credit. I will use both of these apps and see which one works for me. Especially with us young students still learning how to make payments, this app would help us learn how to spend money wisely. And it's better than writing it down on paper and figuring it out. Thank you for sharing this app with us.
