Good/Bad Website Smackdown
The two websites I chose for my Good/Bad website
smackdown were TackleDirect.com and Fishermansheadquarters.com. When I first
visited the TackleDirect website, I was immediately engaged by the colorways
and responsive design after moving my mouse around. TackleDirects site was not
only pleasing to the eye but easy to navigate and find specific items due to
its “Narrow Your Search” option. This option allows users to narrow their
search based on brand, price, ratings, item availability, features, and
specifications. The ability to refine the search and limit the number of items
displayed, that meet search requirements, makes for ease of navigation. The
responsive design breaks down items into 6 categories, within each category,
there are 25-100 more subcategories displayed from merely moving your mouse
over the groups. The responsive design of the categories allows for users of
the site to explore and access, brands, and classifications from the home page.
The ease of navigation paired with amazing content is refreshing when
searching. Throughout the site, you can find pictures and videos of the
products they are selling in use or being reviewed by experts. As well as item
descriptions on over 70,000 products. Overall, the TackleDirect website is easy
to use and navigate, its engaging design and extensive content; makes this
website great.
After visiting Fisherman's Headquarters website,
it took me some time and exploration of the site to understand it and navigate
it. The lack of colors and engaging content was disappointing. When searching
for products the website requires you to scroll and search through each
category to find the product or company you are searching for. The site offers
a lack of navigation as it requires the user to explore and dig thoroughly to
find what they are looking for. After searching for the products you believe
you are expecting, the website design does not always show the products that
match the search queries. The website is very basic and is user reliant on
finding products. The site also does not provide descriptions for every product
and lacks video and picture content. Fisherman’s Headquarters website lacks the
fundamentals of being a good website. Its lack of navigation, content and
unvaried design makes the user experience unengaging and difficult, deeming the
site as a bad example of a website in 2019.

Hello, Gregory! I can see why you chose these two websites as examples. They are very different. I get the sense that your "bad" example is a source of frustration, which is probably not what the company would like a potential customer to feel. It's clear that it was not designed with the needs of the customer in mind- unless it was done on purpose, like going to an Ikea store. You have to walk through EVERYTHING to get to the one item you need and you know they've arranged it that way on purpose to get you to buy more than you need. Good examples!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI checked out your example of a bad website and I have to say it was super frustrating! I noticed that a majority of the items are out of stock, which doesn't really help the buyers! Also I didn't like how you had to search so hard to find the item you were looking for. It almost seemed like the categories were too broken down. I think you chose two great examples of websites as they showcase very different characteristics!
Hello Gregory,
ReplyDeleteYou made great points in your presentation. I also liked how you explained in great detail why TackleDirect.com makes a great website and how Fishermansheadquarters.com is bad. When you were on the fisherman headquarters website and searched for a specific item, your results were more than you were asking for. In my opinion, Fisherman headquarters website does not look terrible, but it is hard to navigate. To compare, Tackle direct looks more efficient and easy to navigate.
